Every June, the same instinct. We open the calendar, audit the resolutions, and start optimizing the half of the year that's already moved on without us.
But the Mediterranean has a different idea about the middle of the year. La pausa — the long lunch, the slow morning, the afternoon that doesn't account for itself. It isn't an interruption of the day. It is the point of the day.
A slow hour doesn't ask to be useful. It asks for your attention.
And attention has a way of surfacing what you'd never put on a list: the story you weren't planning to write, a walk with nowhere to be, the thank-you you've meant to say for years and somehow never have.

That last one is worth sitting with this season. Who is the person you appreciate but have never told out loud? Write to them. Not the shallow version, the deep detailed version — the thing you assume they already know but have never actually said.
Draft it in the notebook, where an afternoon can finally stretch. Then send it on a card worth keeping.
The page is patient. So is the season.
